Volunteering in Lisle can offer unique and exciting opportunities.
It gives greater perspective and self-awareness and is a wonderful way to help people and animals in need.
If you would like to volunteer, here are three organizations around Lisle where you may find that perfect opportunity:
Since 1972, Literacy DuPage has helped adults who cannot read, write, or speak English. Every year, it serves more than 500 learners in over 30 communities. The curriculum is entirely customized, and the students choose their own goals such as applying for a job, reading street signs, and deciphering prescription labels.
Tutors are always in need, and Literacy DuPage provides 18 hours of training, so they can help their students enjoy a new world of communication. Other volunteer opportunities include helping in the office and at summertime events.
West Suburban Community Pantry
At the West Suburban Community Pantry, the mission is to provide nutritionally balanced food to low-income DuPage County residents. Last year, it distributed nearly two million pounds of food and served breakfast to approximately 1,300 school children.
The West Suburban Food Pantry offers both one-time and ongoing volunteer opportunities. Depending on your interests, duties may include assisting clients, sorting food, and making deliveries.
People’s Resource Center
The People’s Resource Center works to meet the community’s needs, neighbor to neighbor. It emerged from humble beginnings in 1975 by handing out groceries in a small house. Today, it’s a multi-site, multi-service organization, and nearly 30,000 people receive assistance every year.
The volunteers play an important role, and more than 2,500 county residents donated their time last year. There are several available jobs, including food pantry worker, children’s art instructor, and specialized intake assistant.
If you’re considering calling Marq on Main home, please contact our friendly staff. They would love to discuss our amenities and available floor plans.Back to all posts
